 This summer, the Jelly NYC Pool Parties in Williamsburg, Brooklyn have stayed true to their core elements: great music in front of a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline, no actual swimming pool... but plenty of sun and fun, beer, hot guys playing dodgeball, and enough room for 6,000 mostly good looking, stylish and hip twentysomethings to enjoy it all. Last week's Dan Deacon/Deerhunter/No Age 'special round robin set' show was, however, an exception. Thousands of stylish and hip twentysomethings...? Yes. Sun? Er, not so much. Great music and fun? Eventually – but only for the 600 or so that got in. Lucky for me, I was one of them. |

 New York based Darwin Deez is making damn sure his music lives up to that "genius pop" tag on his Last.fm page. He is the mastermind behind insanely catchy indie pop that's trademarked with sweet buzzsaw guitar riffs layered over minimalist electronic beats. His hooks are worthy of top 40 radio, and yet the songs sound as if they're being sung by your high school science teacher. |

Some of the most fascinating and distinct indie rock acts are flowing wildly from our very own borough. There are hundreds of artists here making waves by doing something new and different. At the moment, Grizzly Bear and Dirty Projectors are two mega talented and innovative musical acts well on their way to the top. |
